An amateur fungus enthusiast discovered Microglossum cyanobasis, a rare blue-based earthtongue fungus, for the first time in the UK at Kingley Vale national nature reserve in West Sussex in December; the specimen is only the second recorded in Europe. The find, made by Liz Frost in the ancient yew woodland, signals the ecological value of the site's high-quality habitats and undisturbed, nutrient-poor grasslands.
